Event Date: 07/26/2023
Start Time: 09:00 am
Results from a July 25, 2023, bacteriological sampling event at Memorial Park Bathing Beach were received by Public Health, Delta, and Menominee Counties (PHDM) on July 26, 2023. Analysis of the samples has shown that the water quality conditions at the Memorial Park Bathing Beach are not in compliance with total body contact requirements of Part 31, Water Resources Protection of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. Rules promulgated under this act require that “At no time shall the waters of the state protected for total body contact recreation contain more than a maximum of 300 E. coli per 100 mL.” The July 25, 2023, composite sample result was 689.3 E. coli / 100 mL.
The Memorial Park Bathing Beach must be posted as closed until further notice. PHDM staff will conduct follow-up sampling at the bathing beach until E. coli levels have fallen to acceptable levels. PHDM will promptly notify you when acceptable sample results are reported so that normal beach operations can resume. At this time, PHDM is scheduled to collect follow-up samples on July 27, 2023.
Additionally, PHDM will be submitting a sample collected during the July 25, 2023, sampling event for microbial source tracking. This will be done to determine if the source of the E. coli was from humans or waterfowl. We will share the results of the analysis with you once we receive them from the laboratory.
